Position
We are seeking a Lead Consultant to manage, discover, and work directly with agricultural industry groups. Responsibilities include providing subject-matter-expertise to farmers and agricultural companies, relationship management with established clients, advising the EcoData Technology Data Team on how to create deliverables for those clients, and new client recruitment. Some travel is expected. The ability to attend industry meetings and conferences in-person is highly valued, particularly for scientists located in highly productive agricultural areas in the Midwest, California, and Southeastern US.
Minimum Requirements
- PhD in biology, crop science, entomology, or other agriculturally relevant domain.
- 2+ years post-graduate expertise in at least one technical topic of high importance for agricultural production, including but not limited to agronomics, conventional & integrated pest management (IPM), plant pathology, biological control, precision agriculture, food systems & marketing, and new crop variety development.
- Demonstrated success with client/stakeholder relationship management in the agriculture sector. Examples include record of receiving industry or USDA funding for applied research, experience with product development for agricultural industry applications, a portfolio of consulting work in agriculture, or work as an agricultural extensionist.
Preferred Qualifications
- Exposure to data science sufficient to identify client issues and provide guidance to the Data Team. Some training in statistical modeling, machine learning, GIS, database technologies, DevOps, cloud infrastructure, decision support systems, etc is desirable.
- 4+ years post-PhD work in industry or academic research in roles such as lab manager, university professor, product owner, or entrepreneur. For exceptional candidates we will consider all ranks and pay scales.
